Evaluation and Management of Pathologic Conditions

Many benign and malignant lesions can develop in the mouth. These conditions can be found in or on the lining of the mouth, tongue, palate, gums, floor of the mouth and bones of the upper and lower jaws. Some conditions cause symptoms (pain, swelling, soreness, numbness, etc.) while others do not.

Dr. Rodgers is trained at recognizing, diagnosing and appropriately treating oral lesions. Dr. Rodgers has performed over one thousand biopsies of oral lesions. He greatly exceeds the continuing education standards set by the dental board of the state of Indiana. In the Fall of 1998 he taught Oral Pathology for Dental Hygiene at the University of Southern Indiana. All of his students successfully completed the oral pathology portion of their national board examination.

Oral lesions require evaluation, diagnosis and proper management. These images represent a few examples of lesions that can exist in the oral cavity:

Palatal Tumor

Lip Tumor

Floor of Mouth Lesion

Lesion of the Buccal Mucosa (inner cheek)

Gingival Growth

Mandibular (lower jaw) Cyst
