Anesthesia

Intravenous sedation is available for most individuals. IV sedation at Newburgh Oral Surgery, P.C. is done in a well-controlled, safe, effective manner. Patient's vital signs are monitored with modern, state-of-the-art equipment that is regularly checked and maintained by a biomedical electronic technician. Medications are then administered through the IV line until adequate sedation is obtained. Once you are asleep, local anesthesia is administered in the appropriate location and the procedure is performed. You are kept sedated until the procedure is complete and are then recovered by an anesthesia assistant until ready for discharge.

For patients being sedated:
  1. You must have nothing to eat or drink for 6 hours prior to appointment.
  2. You need a responsible person to drive you home and provide assistance as needed at home the day of your surgery.
Dr. Rodgers successfully completed six months of hospital-based anesthesia training at IU Medical Center Hospitals (IU, Riley and Wishard) as part of his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program. He routinely sedated patients throughout his four years of oral and maxillofacial training, and Dr. Rodgers has successfully sedated thousands of patients since completion of training in June of 1993.

Dr. Rodgers is an ACLS (advanced cardiac life support) provider. Our surgery assistants are required to successfully complete the AAOMS official course of study for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Anesthesia Assistants.

Dr. Rodgers exceeds all state and national oral and maxillofacial surgery and anesthesia continued education requirements for oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

Dr. Rodgers is a diplomate of the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology.
